An article on the Count de Leon (pseud. for Bernhard Muller), whose followers founded the co-operative community of Germantown in Webster Parish, La., in 1835, discusses conditions in Europe that prompted him to leave Germany, social conditions in the colony, and the reason for the failure of the settlement in 1871. An article on the association of Baron de Bastrop with Moses Austin and later Stephen F. Austin on German immigration into Texas gives particular attention to the Henry Castro Concession (1842) and the Fischer and Miller Concession (1844). The collection also includes a copy of The (New Orleans) Native American for March 28, 1840, and a newspaper clipping.
